Food Hub
We would love for you to get involved in our work. Please get in touch!

February 2022 update:
Our food hub continues to support local families and people in the community.   30 families received Christmas hampers from us and 45 children were entertained by Skittleman and Dominos Pizza at our Christmas party in the church hall. Manna meals put on another coffee morning for us last month and this was very well attended by lots of people in the community. They served tea, coffee and delicious home made cake.

The next Manna Meals coffee morning will be on 26th February 10-12noon.  All are welcome so please do come along if you can.  We would like to thank Thomas Joseph Butchery in Coxtie Green Road for their donation of turkeys, burgers and sausages and also Lauren at The Co-op, Harewood Road for donations of toiletries recently.

December 2021 update:
We continue to support families in the parish each week.  We are also pleased to have a few new volunteers join us in the last month.  Manna Meals hosted a coffee morning for us during November.  It was very popular with all the tables filled. Their volunteers served coffee and cake and offered company and support to our food hub customers. The next coffee morning will be on 15th January.  The coffee morning is open to everyone (not just people who use the food hub) so do come along and join us.

At Christmas we will provide a Christmas Hamper to 30 families who use the food hub most regularly.  This will mostly be funded by grants that we have received but we would be grateful for donations of boxes of chocolate/selection boxes/boxes or packets of biscuits/sweets to add to the hamper of Christmas food.  If you would like to donate any of these items please place them in the box that’s at the back of the church. Donations need to be received by 16th December.  As Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a Saturday the food hub will instead open from 10-12noon on Thursday 23rd and 30th December.  If you know of any families that are in need of food especially at Christmas time, please do tell them about the food hub. We are open every Saturday 10-12 noon.  We normally leave a box in the church on Sunday morning of food that we have left over.  Please do help yourself to anything in the box as it will be thrown away otherwise.  If you would like to make a donation for food that you take then it will be gratefully received but it’s not essential. Donations are used to help buy tins and packets of food to supplement the fresh food we receive from the supermarkets.   If you would like more information about the food hub then please see myself or Lesley. We are very grateful to the church congregation and wider community for their help and support in running the food hub since it opened in April.

June 2021 update:
Our food hub continues to be busy with around 25 families attending each week.  We have a small army of volunteers (aged 9 to 90!) that help at the hub and we are very grateful to each and every one of them. We have secured a grant from Brentwood Council to help us purchase tins and packets of food to supplement the fresh produce.   We are in need of carrier bags and egg boxes. If you have a supply of either please do deliver them to the church any Saturday morning from 8.30-12 or bring to a Sunday service.  We are also in need of someone to help us from 8am-9am by collecting food from St Peters Church, Hutton and bringing it to St George’s.  If you are able to help with this maybe once or twice a month please let me know.  Manna Meals (a local charity) will be helping us from next month by running a coffee morning once a month whilst the food hub is open.  This is for anyone who would like to attend whether you use the food hub or not. So please do come down and support us by having a cup of tea and a pastry. Dates to be confirmed shortly.
