About Us

St Georges has a diverse and welcoming congregation made up from people of all ages.
Families are welcome for our Sunday School and close links to local faith schools.
We welcome the residents of our local care and community homes along with their carers, who regularly support us.
Our local Bishop described us as a 'Rainbow Church'.

History
St George the Martyr, Brentwood, is an Anglican church in the diocese of Chelmsford. It stands to the north-west of Brentwood town centre on the main A128 Ongar Road. Brentwood itself is located at the crossroads of the Roman road from Colchester to London and the route the pilgrims took over the River Thames to Canterbury. Pilgrim's Hatch is just down the road.

1934
Built in the Art Deco / Gaumont-Odeon style it was dedicated to the worship of Almighty God in 1934. A Brentwood-born architect, Laurence King OBE, designed most of the church. He also: rebuilt St Mary-le-Bow, London after the war, worked on Blackburn Cathedral, built the All Souls Chantry Chapel at Walsingham and rebuilt the parish Church there after a disastrous fire.

2020
After a decade of fundraising, the new porch extension opened for use on 13th December 2020 and everyone is agreed how magnificent it is and how much bigger it appears than when on the plans. We have also paid for it, barring the £4000 retention which will be paid in the next 6 months. However we will have the money for this when we complete the final report to Veolia and they release the final tranche of money. We have 6 months to check for minor faults and have these put right.

Many thanks go to everyone who has given donations however large or small; All who have fund-raised and taken part in activities over the past 10 years; All who have been on the PCC, past Churchwardens and those who have been involved in decision making;, All who have helped with grant writing and getting money, attending grant seminars etc; All who have helped with attending architects meetings , working with the builders, architects and hall users to help the job run smoothly; the builders, Bakers of Danbury Heritage Ltd ; the architects, Carden & Godfrey Ltd; the funders Fowler Smith & Jones, Garfield Weston Foundation, the National Lottery, Veolia Environmental Trust Timpson’s of Brentwood.
